Terms of sale
The terms every car is sold on, from the first quote to the documents you clear it with.
Last updated 23 October 2026.
Who sells
Every car is sold by N.S. JAPAN AUTO LTD., 719-1 Mushirouchi, Koga-shi, Fukuoka 811-3121, Japan, trading as NS Japan Auto (the seller, “we”). The buyer is the person or company named on the proforma invoice (“you”).
How an order works
- Choose a car. We send you more photos and the auction sheet where there is one, and confirm your destination port.
- Proforma invoice. We send an invoice with the car, its price and every charge. It is valid for 7 days, because cars at auction sell quickly.
- Deposit. 50% of the invoice within 3 days reserves the car. We then secure it and send you its chassis number.
- Balance. The other 50% is paid before the car ships.
- Shipment and documents. We ship the car and, once it is paid in full, release the bill of lading, export certificate, inspection certificate (where required) and the commercial invoice you clear it with.
Prices: FOB and CIF
- FOB (free on board) is the price of the car loaded on the ship in Japan.
- CIF (cost, insurance and freight) adds ocean freight and marine insurance to your port. Our “landed” prices are CIF, with pre-shipment inspection included where your country requires it.
- Prices are in US dollars. Prices shown in other currencies are a guide at today's rate; the invoice is in US dollars.
- The price on your proforma invoice is the price you pay. Bank charges for sending the money are paid by you.
Inspection, import rules and duties
Where your country requires a pre-shipment inspection (such as JEVIC or QISJ), we arrange it before shipping and its cost is on the invoice. We tell you the import rules we know of for your country, such as age limits and the side of the steering wheel, but you are responsible for your country's import permits, duties, taxes and port and clearing charges.
The car
Our cars are used vehicles, sold as described on their page, in the photos and in the auction sheet. The mileage is as recorded in Japan. Tell us before you pay if anything matters to you that the description does not cover.
The risk in the car passes to you when it is loaded on the ship in Japan, and the car is yours once it is paid in full. With marine insurance, a loss or serious damage at sea is claimed from the insurance, and we file the claim with you. Minor marks from shipping, loading and unloading (small scratches, scuffs and dents, dust, a flat battery) are normal for a used car at sea and are not covered, with or without insurance.
Spare parts
We also supply used spare parts, on order only: we hold no stock of parts, and we source each part in Japan after you order it.
- Quote. Every request gets its own quote. It states the price, the advance payment and the terms of the order.
- Advance payment. The order is confirmed when the advance stated in the quote reaches our bank. Until then nothing is ordered.
- A part that cannot be found. What happens if we cannot source the part is stated in the quote.
- Condition. Used parts are sold as described in the quote. Tell us before you pay if anything matters to you that the quote does not cover.
- Customs and inspection. Some countries restrict used parts or require them to be inspected before export (such as by QISJ for Kenya). We tell you the rules we know of for your country before you pay, but you are responsible for your country's import permits, duties, taxes and port and clearing charges. Airbags, batteries and fuel are not shipped with parts.
Paying safely, below, applies to parts as to cars. Cancelling a parts order, and any refund, are as its quote states.
Paying safely
- Pay only to N.S. JAPAN AUTO LTD., to the bank account printed on your official proforma invoice. We never ask you to pay a person or a personal account.
- We never change bank details by chat, email or phone. If anyone does, do not pay, and call us.
- A card can pay only a reservation of up to US$2,000 towards the deposit, where your invoice offers it. Everything else is paid by bank transfer.
- A payment counts once it reaches our bank, not when a transfer slip is sent.
Cancellations and refunds
You may cancel within 7 days of paying the deposit, and the deposit is refunded less 40%; after 7 days it is not refundable. If we cannot supply the car, or it is not as described, you get a full refund. See our refund and cancellation policy. The seller's legal details are in our Commerce Disclosure.
