Importing a car from Japan to Australia: common questions

How much does it cost to import a car from Japan to Australia?
We quote the landed (CIF) cost at Australia: the car's FOB price in Japan, ocean freight to the port, marine insurance (1.5% of the FOB price, at least $45), in one figure. Ask for any car's price on WhatsApp and we send it. Import duty, taxes and port charges in Australia are not included: Australia's customs authority sets them, and your clearing agent pays them at the port.
How long does shipping from Japan to Australia take?
About 20 days at sea from Japan to Sydney (15 to 27 days, depending on the vessel and the sailing). Allow one to three weeks before departure for inspection and booking space on a vessel.
Is there an age limit on cars imported to Australia?
We know of no import age limit for Australia, so every car in our stock is listed here. Import rules change and have exceptions: check with your local authority before you pay a deposit. We will tell you what we know, but the ruling is theirs.
Do cars for Australia need a pre-shipment inspection?
Not for cars landed at Sydney, so there is no inspection fee in the landed price.
